1. General information
Approaches: 1. Contribute to the learning of medication and evaluation of visual function and structure in the ophthalmologic surgery. 2. To know pre-operative evaluation protocols from an optometric point of view. 3.
To achieve an integral formation of the student.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): We will collaborate in the improvement of the quality of life at a global level in:
-
SDG 3: Health and wellness. The health of the population will be improved by optimizing the training of future health professionals capable of carrying out efficient preventive actions and improving visual health.
-
SDG 4: Quality Education. Quality education will be promoted based on the acquisition of theoretical-practical contents and clinical competencies.
2. Learning results
The teaching is oriented to the acquisition of professional values and appropriate behaviours that will allow the student to face the ophthalmologic problems and situations of patients in relation to the different surgical approaches in Ophthalmology with a special attention to surgical procedures of refractive orientation both at corneal and crystalline level
Surgical activity represents one of the most important areas of the healthcare activity carried out in the hospital environment, with cataract surgery being the undisputed highlight. In addition, it is indisputable that in the last years there has been a tremendous increase in the different surgical approaches in relation to the correction of refractive defects and presbyopia, both through laser procedures and the implantation of intraocular lenses.
This subject will focus on the management of the optometric sphere of the patient undergoing ophthalmologic surgery in the different stages of the surgical procedure.

4. Academic activities
FACE-TO-FACE TEACHING (8 ECTS, 80 hours):
1 Large Group Training Activity: Introductory and participatory lectures (Theoretical Program, 29 lessons, 30 hours, 3 ECTS)
2 Formative Activity in Small Groups/Subgroups: Practical clinical experience related to the evaluation and management of ocular pathologies. Methodology: Internship in a hospital (9 hours, 0.9 ECTS). Problem Solving and Case Studies.
Seminars. (10 hours, 1 ECTS). Laboratory Practices. Workshops. Seminars. (31 hours, 3.1 ECTS)
NON-FACE-TO-FACE TEACHING (8 ECTS credits, 80 hours): It is the student's autonomous work
5. Assessment system
-
Evaluation of the physics area: It corresponds to 16% of the grade of the subject, i.e. 1.6 points (out of 10 total). It will be carried out through the submission of papers. If these papers are not submitted or the student does not agree with the grade obtained, they can take a final exam of this part by multiple-choice questions (with the same format as the ophthalmology exam)
-
Evaluation of the ophthalmology area: It corresponds to 84% of the grade for the subject, i.e. 8.4 points (out of the
total 10). It will include theoretical or theoretical-practical questions or clinical assumptions of the contents of the theoretical program and seminars and workshops of the ophthalmology part. It will consist of multiple choice questions (5 distracting answers , 1 valid answer). The valuation of the answers will be: right answer 1 point, wrong answer -1/5 point. There is a possibility that the exam may be conducted in the format of topics or short questions.
In order to pass the subject, the grades resulting from the evaluations of the physics and ophthalmology parts will be computed, being necessary to reach a minimum of 5 points out of 10 total points.
